My Approach

Isn’t it amazing how strong and resilient we can be, as human beings? I often reflect on that. Many of us go through a multitude of really tough experiences and somehow we find a way to keep functioning. At times, we ‘sort of’ function, until our coping mechanisms are at breaking point and it is time to get some help with untangling the complex mess. If this is where you feel you’re at: don’t be alone in it.

It is a great honour to be invited in on this courageous process; to find a way through it together. I now believe that there are many routes towards a happier, more fulfilled existence, for everyone. Healing happens if you let it. And here’s the paradox: once we ease off and stop fighting ourselves, we start moving in a more helpful direction.

I believe meaningful change in mental health services starts at the community level. When people come together in small groups to tackle individual challenges, it often has a real impact. My time at Cork Counselling Services reinforced this belief - community-based services are often a lifeline and they respond to what people actually need.

At CCS, I worked with clients through initial assessments, ongoing counselling and crisis intervention. On the training side, I held various roles, including Head of Tutors and running the Together Series seminars, where we collaborated with other community-based services we admired.

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in strategy and innovation, helping companies navigate change. I now apply this experience to support reform in mental health.

Originally from Amsterdam, we moved to West Cork about 15 years ago with our two small sons who are now taller than me!

If you think I may be a good fit for what you need right now, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
