My Approach
When I think about the best way to explain my approach, I believe it can be helpful if I first outline my perspective on ‘mental health’ as this is really what guides my work. Sometimes when we think of mental health we can at times focus on what’s ‘wrong’, on dysfunction and on disorder. In my work, my focus is not on what’s ‘wrong’ with you, it’s on what might help you move toward a greater sense of integration. This means working together with you to uncover and understand your subjective experiences of the world, exploring ’what’s it like to be you’? or ‘what are the meanings you have attached to your unique experiences? and ‘what aspects of your life do you need support in exploring right now?’ The focus of my work is on reconnection and integration and so I often work with people who may be experiencing a sense of loss, isolation or disconnection from themselves, others or the world around them. Clients might choose to work with me to:
Understand and navigate emotional responses which may be impacting their day to day life, such as feelings of anxiety, overwhelm, depression, panic, fear, sadness, loneliness, shame, or anger.
Understand their relationships with themselves and others; such as family, partners, friends, colleagues.
Unpack their worries or experiences related to particular life transitions, or events,
Discuss past experiences which may feel unresolved or unheard.
Have a space to explore unique challenges that may be impacting their personal development and ways of relating to others.
To gain insight so they can explore their own self-healing capacities.
My work is influenced by my own lived experiences, philosophy, sociology and the arts. I complement my work by offering psychoeducation, opportunities for reflection through creative activities, mindfulness based practices and signposting to relevant techniques, books, community supports and resources when needed or requested by clients.
If you think I may be a good fit for what you need right now please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
